This is exactly what I want when I’m craving Mexican food! Their birria and carnitas are so good and loved other dishes like the chilaquiles in salsa roja! Their drinks are also great and it helps that they have a great happy hour rotation. Was only in town for 3 days and I went twice and will definitely be back the next time in Calgary!

As a Mexican constantly traveling between Canada, the US and Mexico, trying new Mexican restaurants has become a hobby of mine. I reserve 5 stars only for the very best Mexican food. Native Tongues is certainly deserving of 5 stars. To start, al pastor tacos are the most authentic I’ve had in Canada. True to the roots, cooked in a trompo (gyro), nicely marinated with a touch of pineapple. These al pastor tacos truly tasted like home. The carnitas, carne asada and quesabirria are also great choices and a must try. For drinks, I’ve tried the Paloma and classic michelada with the michelada being my recommendation as it not only tastes great but also tastes like one straight from Mexico City. The only item that was not as great was their Horchata. I’d skip it as it’s a very small size and the flavor is ok at best. Lastly, be aware the prices are high for the food you’re getting. While the food is amazing, the portion sizes are quite small.

Every time we’re in Calgary, Native Tongues is a must. It’s the kind of place that instantly makes you feel at home — the staff are always so warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere has that perfect mix of cool and cozy. The tacos? Next-level. Bursting with flavor, perfectly crafted, and honestly addictive. My go-to is the frijoles And can we take a moment for the margaritas? They’re seriously dangerous (in the best way). Fresh, tangy, and just the right kick — they always hit the spot. If you haven’t been yet, you’re missing out on one of Calgary’s best hidden gems!

I visited with my sister and enjoyed a lot. Food was nice, so we ordered once more after we finished first round! Server was kind, too. Will visit again soon. And there is reverse happy hour after 9pm, and I am so excited to be full!

Great service and atmosphere, plus just the overall vibe that lends itself to gathering with good friends for good food. For a Tuesday the restaurant was pleasantly half full as we came in for happy hour- yet service was prompt and staff were friendly. We were glad to ask about food and drink recommendations that did not fail to impress (*especially impressed with the Pork Belly Pibil, Torta Sandwich zero proof Selva Dorado tropical cocktail heart Truly wish I'd taken more pictures but all the more reason to visit again!!)

Great food and a fantastic atmosphere! The tacos here are hands down the best I’ve had in Calgary—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly made. Service was quick and attentive. I’ve visited in the evening, and it gets busy, so I’d recommend booking ahead.

We picked a Mexican restaurant that specializes in tacos for gathering, and I have to say, the pork belly pilbil taco was absolutely divine—perfect in both texture and flavor. Definitely a game-changer! The carnitas, as a classic taco option, was also flawless (Mexicans really know how to cook pork). The slow-braised beef and mushroom cheese tacos were more average in comparison. Overall, it’s definitely an authentic spot, and the price reasonable service is good as well! Definitely a place worth revisiting!

Fantastic, authentic and delicious! What a great beltline treasure! The food was excellent, the staff was friendly and professional, and the kitchen was immaculate! The salsa Verde is 10 out of 10!! Thanks a million! I just wish I tried this gem alot earlier!
